The resource sector is growing at an unprecedented rate with several construction projects in the CSG industry occurring at the same time resulting in a critical skills shortage.
The challenge is to provide new skilling pathways to ensure there is capacity to deliver the necessary skilled workforce required for these projects.
The success of the 2012 Work for Queensland Mining and Gas Jobs Expos, attended by over 24,000, highlighted the challenge in providing a simple pathway that matches the skills required and the jobs available in the construction phase of the CSG projects in Queensland.
Site WorkReady Train to Task Process
The Train To Task process provides a pipeline of workers suitably pre-trained for the semi-skilled construction jobs that are required in large numbers for projects in the current market. The scale of construction projects over the next five years necessitates this new approach.
Through industry engagement, customized short courses that underpin the knowledge required to gain initial entry into the workforce, are required to achieve the numbers needed for the projects currently in progress. Courses include units of competencies that allow the participant to progress to a nationally recognized qualification. Also included are compliance units that allow fast tracking into the workplace.
