Major Agreement for Training and Assessment Services in Support of the Skilled Migration Program
Major industry projects are set to receive a boost from the agreement signed today between Victoria University (VU) and Site Group International (Site) to provide assessment and training services in support of skilled migration.
This agreement brings together a leading provider of workforce planning solutions with a leader in trades training to develop and deliver vocational assessment and training services from Site Groupai??i??s campus at the Clark Freeport Zone in the Philippines, and potentially other locations throughout Asia.
The skilled workers will be assessed to meet industry demand and address skills shortages across a range of growth sectors including mining and processing, oil and gas, engineering and camp services.
Todayai??i??s agreement expands the capacity and capability at the well-developed, centrally located Clark campus, which has a background in the provision of workforce services for big projects such as Malampaya (Shell Chevron PNOC) and other major Australian resource projects.
At the signing of the contract Ms Kath Curry, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Technical and Trades Innovation at VU, commented:
“This exciting venture enables VU to deliver quality skills assessment services from our broad range of programs to support employers who are struggling to find suitably qualified workers domestically for important projects.”
“The financial investment and quality commitment to training in the region cannot be understated,” Ms Curry explained. “This will support individuals and companies to get things moving and to connect across the Asian Century. This complements VUai??i??s mission to be excellent, engaged and accessible across countries and cultures and with industry. For these reasons we are looking forward to the opportunities that our ongoing relationship with Site will deliver.”
Site Managing Director and CEO Mr Vernon Wills agreed:
“This is a major public-private provider relationship that will deliver coordinated growth in services provided by VU and Site throughout the Asian region. We view this agreement as a major benefit to our Australian and global customers, adding a significant spread of training and assessment services to those we are currently offering.
“Australia continues to face shortages of skilled workers to complete approximately AUD$250 billion of projects that are already underway. Both VU and Site are committed to training and skilling Australians who are looking for a pathway into industry. The strength of this relationship means we are also able to provide companies with access to international workers who can be properly accredited to Australian standards to fill the gaps when project needs cannot be met by the existing workforce at home.”
Both VU and Site offer substantial vocational training capability around Australia and overseas.
